Xinhua released, Xi Jinping was elected as the President of People Republic of China on Thursday 14 March 2013 and Li Keqiang was nominated as the Premier replacing Wen Jiabao on this Friday 15 March 2013.

Xi Jinping was appointed to the Communist Party’s top post in November, replaces Hu Jintao, who is stepping down. Xi Jinping was elected chairman of the Central Military Commission of the People’s Republic of China at the annual session of the 12th National People’s Congress Thursday morning. Xi was also elected Chinese president at the same meeting.
Newly elected Chinese President Xi Jinping held telephone talks with his U.S. counterpart Barack Obama and Russia Counterpart Vladimir Putin respectively on the expansion of cooperation and other mutual interests.

Mr Li, 57, who is seen as close to outgoing leader Hu Jintao, speaks fluent English and has a PhD in economics. As premier, he will oversee a large portfolio of domestic affairs, managing economic challenges, environmental woes and China’s urbanisation drive.
